Decorating after roof leak into wall...

What's the thoughts on the correct approach to deal with a square metre or so of water stained, pockmarked & salt crusted internal plastered wall caused by a roof leak above a masonry wall (before re-decorating)?

Can it be salvaged without knocking off & replastering?

Let it dry and rub down. Knock it to see if it sounds hollow indicating that it may have parted from the wall. If sound just fill and paint.

Look at some of the Zinsser stain covering paints Available from Screwfix/Toolstation
