I've got a wallpaper steam stripper and have a new carpet which our baby has thrown up on a few times and was wondering can I use the steam stripper to clean it using some sort of attachment?

Yes. I just use mine with the stripping plate, or sometimes with the bare hose end for doing cookers.
Silicone oven gloves are just the job for working with steam.
