system boiler. That has a pump inside as well. Ideal.

If you already have an external pump etc isn't fitting a system boiler likely to be extra work for no reason?

Assuming that it's a vented system and that you're not proposing to convert it to a sealed system, you just need a 'conventional' boiler - i.e. just the boiler, no pump, no expansion vessel. You *don't* need a combi. However, in order to comply with the current building regs, it will need to be a condensing boiler unless you can demonstrate compelling reasons why that would not be practical. It needs to have access to an outside wall for the condensate drain - so it may need to be in a different location from the existing boiler.

The controls will also need to comply with current regs - so you'll need to make sure it has a boiler interlock (which it probably already does if it's a conventional Y-Plan or W-Plan system) and you'll have to fit TRVs on all but one radiator if the rads don't already have them.
