Ariston Contract 210 Indirect Cylinder

May 03, 2004 1 Replies

I get a continuous small water leak to the tundish then to waste on this cylinder. If I close the Mains Water Stop Valve then the leak stops. What is the cause and how can I overcome it. Can I safely use the immersion heater providing I open the stop valve to draw off hot water. Getting a plumber in during the holiday period is difficult

It's a leak from the pressure or temperature relief valves, either because it is corroded or because a piece of material like scale has become caught in it.

The flow stops because turning off the mains effectively allows the pressure to fall, so probably it is the pressure relief valve.

You might be able to clear it simply by opening the valve and letting it close. You probably won't, but could make it worse. If you do, then it will need to be replaced anyway.

It should be safe to use the cylinder with immersion or even the CH running it, but I would turn off the heat source and water supply when you have finished using the water. THe valve is opening, after all so I don't think that the safety is compromised.

Then it is a case of getting a plumber tomorrow. I wouldn't pay the arm and a leg for one today.
