Fitting a car stereo

Would've liked to have gone to an independent shop but both the ones I found on a google search, no longer exist. He got an Alpine for £186 on Reserve & Collect, compared to £229 in store price. He ordered it from his phone, while standing in the shop.

OT - Recycling gone mad

In my area all the broken bikes are sold to a cycle shop as a job lot, refurbished and the shop then sells them. I put a lot of stuff on gumtree now so that someone can get the chance to use it before I take to the tip.

Weird phone ring problem?

(Retrofit on OUR schedule = "free". Your schedule/request = $$) Unless you disconnected all the station wire from the protector, you didn't eliminate all of the POTENTIAL trouble in the home. Still, I'm impressed with the alligator clip test cord.

wiring to an out building (shop)

If the shop is considered residential use, #4 THWN conductors in 1-1/4" conduit buried 2' deep will meet the NEC requirements. If the shop is to be used commercially, the minimum size wire would be #3 for a 100 amp subfeed.

Nice quality speed square

What am I missing (for a cabinet shop)? I can afford 10 bucks for a must have tool. I have always considered a combo square as a must have tool for a shop but have occasionally had to resist buying a speed square due to my weakness for all measuring devices.

Lathe Motor Replacement Conundrum

The other choice still, of course, is to get the existing pulley rebored at a machine shop--depending on whether you have a local kind-hearted retiree w/ a shop in his basement you might get it done pretty inexpensively; commercial shops tend to be pretty pricey. --

Dust Collector Bag

Is the DC inside the shop, or outside? Except for emptying it when necessary, I'd leave the cloth bag alone, especially if it's inside the shop. The dust cake that develops helps to filter out a lot of the smaller particles of dust from the air exiting the DC bag. Sure, you can wash ...

HF dust collector switch problem

Did you test the Shop Fox? Mine died. Within the first week one of the remotes died. I had to return the whole shebang to get a replacement. Then After a few months the outlet plug on the Shop-Fox melted! I got a better one from Grainger and wired it in.

Request for advice on sanders to prep for paint

Look for a "finishing sander" with the ability to attach a shop-vac*. Use the special porous sanding material (it looks like window screen wire and the vacuum sucks through the face into the collection device).
