I was going through some old Horticulture magazines that a neighbor had given me, and came upon this:

New Mexican Orchid Discovered A new orchid was discovered recently in the Rio Molino area of Oaxaca, Mexico, by Dr. J. Stuart Rowley who was on a bird collecting expedition for the American Museum, the California Academy of Science and the Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology. Dr. Rowley, obviously a botanist as well as an ornithologist, died on the trip and the plant was named in his honor.
Epidendrum rowleyi is a small, thick-leaved plant with pale purple-pink flowers with narrow petals less than 2 inches long. It was found growing on a tall oak tree in a typical Mexican, pine-oak forest. The type specimen plant is preserved at the Orchid Herbarium of Oakes Ames in Cambridge, Massachusetts and a living plant is now growing at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
