release pedal on vacuum doesn't latch

I have a Bissell Cleanview bagless vacuum (mod. 8975). The problem is the release pedal you step on to release the handle doesn't latch so the handle just falls. So you have to hold onto it when using the hose attachments and it has to be propped just right when it's put away. I rally can't afford to purchase a new vacuum right now and would prefer to try and fix it myself if at all possible. The pedal not latching is not affecting the performance of the vacuum; all the parts still work correctly. It's just more of an annoyance than anything else. Is this something that can be easily fixed?

If the release button is stuck down, it might just be jammed or a spring popped off but if the button works and just dosen't latch then maybe a plastic part has broken and it will need a replacement part. many parts are avaliable by calling customer service # in the manual (as well as an actual qualified answer to your question).
