Does anyone know how to visually determine the type of siding you have on your house - in particular if it is hardiplank or masonite.

Chip a bit of the siding off at an inconspicuous edge. Hardiplank will look like cement; masonite will be the color and texture of particle board or fibrous wood. There also may be discarded scraps of the siding somewhere along the margins of your house, or in the soil.
