I like the unicorn idea. That's pretty darn efficient and relatively safe. That redneck contraption is downright insane.

I can imagine someone losing their balance and falling on that huge screw. Neither one would work on sweetgum.

similarities to steel mill equipment I helped design that would "Face" (Square off end of pipe), "profile" (Cut tapered profile on end of pipe,) and "Thread" (Exactly that) pipe for oil field service.

The whole process was totally automated which was late '50s time frame.
