If it's the same as the one I have just installed for a friend (Marley I think) then the "plastic turny thing" pulls out and it is used for fitting and removing the whole waste assembly. On the bottom of the "plastic turny thing" there are some spigots that fit on the arms of the strainer and then the "plastic turny thing" is turned to remove the waste assembly.

THIS IS FOR INFORMATION ONLY, DO NOT DO THIS unless you want / need to remove the waste. I will not be held responsible for your downstairs ceiling collapsing due to water ingress!!

On ours, you can remove it, it forms the trap, thereby being able to clear blockages from above - very handy. It is somewhat stiff to pull up owing to an inbuilt 'o' ring.

. . . yours MAY be the same . . . or it may all fall apart . . . your risk !!!

We've got one of these - and I always wondered what the purpose of the o-ring was?? Once, when cleaning out the trap, I found that the o-ring had got completely scrambled when the trap was reassembled on the previous occasion, so I just chucked it. Makes no apparent difference AFAICS other than being easier to remove!

That's what I kind of suspected - hence I did give it a little yank (devito) and nothing happened. Next time I'll try a clinton and see where I get to.

Thanks for all the replies.
