Radiators and Electrical sockets

Are there any issues with the siting of radiators and electric sockets. How far away from the radiator is an acceptable distance.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Far enough that you don't bark your knuckles every time you take a plug out is a good idea.

Don't think there's any general rule, though if the radiator is in a bathroom the answer would be "outside the room" :-)

Having believed for 30-odd years that the entire open-plan downstairs of my parents' 1967 house (apart from the kitchen) was originally served by just two single sockets, last week I discovered a third; behind a radiator.

I think that in 1967 the houses were built without central heating (certainly one of our neighbours didn't have any until the late 1970s) and what seems to have happened is that when the heating was later installed (sometime before my parents bought the house in 1972) this position was chosen for the radiator on the assumption that the socket wouldn't be used.

(Not strictly true of course, there was a wire tacked on the back of the socket taking power to the garage. It was a need to work on the garage feed which caused me to find the socket in the first place... and to remove said radiator)

Hwyl!
