HELP! Gloworm Swiftflow 80 not firing up. EVERYTHING else tested by CORGI engineer.

Description and Sypmtoms last few weeks:

Domestic 1996 Gloworm Swiftflow 80. Boiler would only fire up and generate hot water/heating if the timer was gently 'encouraged' with a little hand pressure. Even then it would take a few goes before hot water was flowing. Heating was at half mast even when thermostat was on full. Now nothing. SOlenoid is pulling, pump is whiring but unit simply won't fire up. Valve and PCB changed by engineer to see if that would rectify problem. Same problem. Original PCB and Valve replaced and new Thermostat and Timer fitted. All auxilary wiring checked. Correct current running around system. so; Not the Valve Not the PCB Not the Wiring Not the Timer/Thermostat

CORGI Engineer was totally baffled!

ANY SUGGESTIONS/IDEAS/DIAGNOSIS WELCOMED as it's looking like a potential =A31500-2000 new boiler installation. (ouch!) Thanks for listening. Mr Midi

How much has it cost you so far ?

you could replace all the sensors, fit a new fan and pressure switch, that might fix it. Personally i would sack your CORGI engineer and fit a new boiler

Not quite sure of what you are describing so this might be irrelevant but on my gas boiler the plastic (rotary) OFF-min-max dial knob comes off and has to be replaced in the correct position or the pointer indicates wrong. Sounds like the thermocouple is the only thing you haven't changed/tested and happens to be the bit that goes wrong most often. M.K.

Thanks for all your advice and comments. I have learned that the wiring was originally faulty and the loom had to be replaced a few years ago. Will review situation after a second opinion from another CORGI engineer and rewire the system before anyhting drastic like changing the boiler over!
