heat exhanger is going in

this week-end I'm cutting off all the pipes leading to the loft. Attaching a heat exchanger, flow switch and blending valve to the hotwater tank and in theory should have mains hot and cold by saturday evening..

oh my - wish me luck

"Good luck" ;-)

(have I missed something .. where are you exchanging the heat from?)

I think spotted an air (as opposed to water) heat exchanger in a cat the other day and I wondered if they work well (for pre-heating incoming air via the extracted air from the bathroom)?

All the best ..

Air to air heat recovery extractors are available.

Sri, "catalogue" (not one of those stinking furry things that dump on my lawn and pee up everything?. Never seemed to have cat's in the back garden when our Lurcher patrolled it .. he 'loved' cat's .. rarely ate anything else!) ;-)

Do they work though? As in really get yer money back in less lost heat energy (eventually) and no complicated side effects?

All the best ..

The whole house versions with the heat exchanger in the loft can be over 90% efficient in temp discharged to outside and temp blown into the rooms. The stand alone units I doubt would reach this sort of figure. But they do take foul air away and replace it with fresh. An extractor only takes it away.

I didn't know they did 'whole house' solutions but it makes sense?

Would you (or anyone) have any everyday links to suppliers of the stand alone versions please? (Not sure what they would be called Google only takes me to broken links, industrial units and manufactureres of special tubing).

All the best ..

You can also have in-line copper tubed duct heaters heated from boiler to assist the heating system, humidification, etc.

Johnson & Starley make them:

BES had one in their catalogue:

I hope you've bought a pump too. And a load of flanges.
