I am laying a flooring of chipboard tongue and groove on top of 4 inch insulation boards. Is it best to glue boards together or not. I have been advised to do both and unsure which way to go. Many thanks. Neil
You can't do both - it's one or the other!
Neither ... but one of them may be better :-)
If you don't glue then it probably will creak like hell, I know as I did a quick loft flooring once with the smaller chipboard t&g boards (screwed straight onto the floor joists). But then a loft normally only is accessed once in a blue moon.
If you *do* glue then it will still creak in places but if you want a "quiet" floor then it's probably best.
If you ever need to get *under* the floor (to fix a leak for example, been there!) then you'll get your circular saw out anyway, glued or not glued.

Thanks for that. It is a new extension and the building inspector said lay
4 inch insulation done then cover that with a membrane and then lay the boards straight on top. He never said wether to glue or not. We have no pipes underneath so hopefully it would not need to come up again. With it not been on joists we cannot screw to anything so on the strength of advice kindly given upto now I will glue it together (unless someone as a better idea) Thanks to all.
