Decking materials

I plan to build a deck approx 3.6m x 2.7m as a kind of apron in front of the french doors of my soon to be erected conservatory. Best deals in decking materials?

Ask at your local sawmill. Don't buy from the "decking specialists" who of course buy from the same sawmills.

There is a place on the ruthin-denbigh road in N.Wales where they make the stuff.

I have to say that B&Q do some very good decking.

You lock the supporting frame together and then slot the desking squares on top. We rotated every other square to give a chess board type of effect.

It sounds hideous and when my other half first came up with the idea, I thought it would be awful. However, it actually works very well.

The decking slots into place and does not need to be screwed down.

The important thing is to make sure that the decking frame is clear of the ground by a few mm to avoid rot. We placed a series of concrete slabs in situ to support the frame. The slabs sit underneith the decking so you cannot see them.

We built a square area in the middle of the garden and then two smaller squares (step on and step off) at either end. The rest of the garden has been dug up for shrubs and plants.

It doesn't look too bad.
