Cigarette smoke smell ?

A friend moved into a flat not long ago and the previous tennant was a heavy smoker and hes having trouble getting rid of the smell.

He's tried airing the flat and fabreze etc but no luck.

Any ideas how to get rid of the horrible cigarette smell ?

I had this problem with a house I wanted to let. Every item of soft furnishing had to go and top to bottom decoration after several washes with sugar soap. I wanted to keep a particular armchair and that did eventually succumb to liberal doses of Febreeze

wait a LONG time. and replace all fabrics and scrub paintwork with bleach.

As with dogs, the smell is almost impossible to get out of carpets, curtains and soft furnishings.

Essentially strip the place bare, and scrub with bleach, or repaint everything.

Wash everything. Or steam clean carpets and fabrics, etc. Most of these smoke products are water soluble.

Start smoking & learn to enjoy it.

Prochem odour neutraliser. Look in yellow Pages under 'Janitorial Supplies' to find a stockist.

It's very difficult. One method is to hire an ozone generator. Essentially you turn it on and vacate the premises for a few hours, as it generates a level of ozone that is not healthy, but acts to bleach everything. Such things are probably available via the Yellow Pages or online equivalent.

Replace the horrible cigarette smell with the horrible "artificial flowers" stink of Prochem odour neutraliser. ;-(

Prochem does work on cat pee (although not as well as expensive enzyme neutralisers) but why the hell do they need to add that disgusting stink to it?

Some friends moved into a property in a similar state a few months ago and they ended up painting the walls with some specialist paint that was like Ready Brek and, they said, almost needed trowelling on. Worked though.

Try an air ioniser.

Or a product called Neutradol. Both of these are supposed to be able to remove smells but I cannot vouch for either.
