Ping Trader_4 - GG Issue

Old story, heard it all before. If you knew how I got paid, you'd think differently.

They are actually saying "For security reasons, no external input or output devices are allowed on our networks."

Many sites are blocked, especially those that allow downloads or uploads, again, for security reasons. GG Is not blocked, by their choice. They could block it with a couple of keystrokes if it was a concern.

You make it sound as if I was complaining. I wasn't. I was simply pointing out that the suggestion to use a portable newsreader on a thumb drive is not an option, neither at work nor on my iPad.

I was thinking tbird could just be downloaded onto the iPad, but I had a different tablet (it worked on my tablet).

And yesterday it was really, really bad, with many new separate threads showing up in GG. Today, it's better, less of them, but still there.

Not to mention that if I'm using someone else's computer, for whatever reason, I don't want to install anything on it.

IDK what's going on, but it is interesting that yesterday was the worst day ever and it was right after you brought up your issue. Not implying I blame you, just that it looks like one of the trolls could be doing it deliberately.

I'm on GG and I have seen what you are talking about, but only on this news group.

GG is not so bad. GG fell into disfavor deservedly a few years ago becasue they were the source of tons of spam. But they seemed to have resolved that.

I find GG very handy.

As a standalone, iPad only solution, tbird might not be a bad idea. In fact, I used to use NewsTapLite on my iPad, which is a dedicated newsreader app.

However, I still have to adhere to the main restriction related to accessing usenet: The fact that GG is the only thing I can use on my work PC. For consistency sake, I use GG on my work PC, my home PC, on my iPad (in desktop mode) and smartphone and any other random PC that I might sit down in front of. Anywhere that I use GG it all looks the basically the same.

One more thing to keep in mind: While I appreciate all of the suggestions, I was never actually asking for or looking for an alternative. I was merely asking trader_4, who I know uses GG, if he was seeing the same "split thread" issue that I am. Granted, I did voice some frustrations regarding the readability of GG because of this fairly new issue, but I did not mean to give the impression that I needed/wanted a different way to access usenet.

I've got another weird thing happening, separate from this issue.

In the thread "Square D electrical panel question" which is currently

14 GG pages long, it always opens to my 2nd post on the first page, the post where I posted the long link to a forum where Main Disconnects vs. Service Disconnects were discussed. I then have to pull down the page menu to go the last page. It doesn't matter which device I use, as long as I am logged in, the link for that GG thread take me to that post.

Strange.

The original "Guns in America" thread on GG has exactly

1000 posts in it. I wonder if Google's software has gone a little nuts over that number, and can't figure out where to put the subsequent posts.

Does the 1K number hold true for the "OT - more Trump" or "OT Idiot lights-out drivers" threads?

I've seen the same thing happen, not sure if it was that thread, but definitely on some of the threads, instead of going to the unread, new posts it opens on some much earlier page. And even as new posts are added, it stays stuck on always opening to that one early page.

I've used tbird on my laptop, and pc, and via a thumb drive, but on my android smart phone I found an app called Groundhog that works pretty well. I guess I just look for the easiest app to use on whatever device I'm using at the time. When I had my tablet I used Groundhog on it, too.

I was just curious why you'd choose google groups vs something that might be easier to use. Everyone has their own reasons for what they use.

Hey trader_4,

Any chance you could send me an email so I can ask you a direct question related to GG...something I don't want to ask in the ng? The email attached to my GG account should work. It's a spam-receptacle, but I can check it when I need to.

Just let me know if you do or not (I'll understand either way.)

Sure. Only problem, how do I see your full email address? All I see is:

I think you folks are over stating the spam thing. Most of the spam I get is from companies that I do business with. I imagine I get a little from usenet but it is not that oppressive.

I changed ISPs a few months ago, and decided to put a real one in my Usenet headers. So far, not a single spam.

Just a few years ago, email addresses left in the clear like that would always result in a small stream of new spam sources. But I think that nowadays the spammers don't consider there to be enough Usenet users with unhidden addresses in their headers to make it worth their while.

I'm not sure what your point is. I didn't say anything about an over abundance of spam from usenet. I merely mentioned that the email I use for GG is a spam receptacle - in general.

Trust me, it gets a lot of spam from various sources but that's why it exists. I use to register for just about any site/forum that requires a "confirmation email" be sent. For those sites that I trust, I can always change the email to any of my (many) others.
