Painting question

Going to paint a couple rooms....ceiling, walls, doors, skirting etc In the past have always taken up carpets before a start...this time decided to leave carpets in place. Any tips on good ways to avoid getting paint on carpets....particularly thinking about where the carpet and skirting board meet. Thanks, John

1.) Masking tape to hold dustsheet or newspaper right up to the carpet edge/skirting board. Remove the next day. 2.) Plastic or hardboard shield but you have to keep wiping the paint off it. 3.) Avoid overloading the brush/paint runs with 1.) and 2.).

I use packing tape, stick it onto the carpet and press over the carpet edge making sure that it doesn't stick to the skirting and covers all the carpet. If necessary stick a poly dust sheet to this with masking tape to cover all of the carpet and then use cloth decorating sheets over the top.
