Painting Question

Hello:

Have put up new Cedar clapboard siding, which came pre-primed with an oil primer. How good the primer is, is anyone's guess.

Painting question:

Would you just put on two coats of a high quality latex paint right over the existing mfg. applied primer, or would you use another additional coat of primer (pre-tinted to the house color), and then a coat of regular paint, making two coats total, again ?

Why ?

Thanks, B.

Two coats of finish paint on the existing primer. Primer is thin, is designed to be a bonding coat, not designed to be a wear surface and does not have enough pigment. Tinting pigment is borderline acceptable for interior work, and just not adequate for exterior work.
