TOT: Gas Usage

Hi

How much Gas does everyone here use? I have never monitored by energy usage although I do always turn the thermostat down a degree when the wife isn't looking!

Yesterday, I took a reading at 8.30am, 12372,347. This morning (@ 8.30am) I took another reading, 12380,931. So, in 24 hours normal useage, we have used just over 8 m^3. I calculate that to be approx 88 kwh.

I gave up the urge to 'monitor' energy usage after learning that it almost drives you to a state of paranoia.

Scenario:

You go around after the first high bill screaming blue murder at the energy companies, the wife etc about the cost and turn *every* damned thermostat down to almost zero that you can reach - then threaten said family about turning these back up with all sorts of weird consequences and you sit back comfortable in the thought that you are going to reduce the gas bill!

This works great until...*you* suddenly find that even in a fully insulated house (if there can ever be such a thing) that the temperature is dropping and you are beginning to feel cold (despite the three jumpers, two layers of thermal underwear, two pairs of thermal socks and a thumping great overcoat - you, yes you, are still feeling cold and *you* commit the heinous sin of being the first to turn up the damned room stat a couple of degrees...much to the hilarity of the rest.

And then...it's your turn to do the cooking (on gas for ones sins) so, you select the menu, dice and slice and then find that you have to let the gas oven pre-heat to gas-mark 6 (or even higher) for half and hour *before* you can even bung the food in it - damn, more paranoia about costs and you sit in the corner crying about the money that you are *not* saving - and that's before you even start cooking the bloody veg on the hob with all four burners giving out enough heat to send a rocket the moon - sigh! Where's the 'happy' pills!

And then there's the cost of the washing up, bathing, shaving (the wife's shaving that is, I'm as bald as a coot), clothes washing (all heated by that great lump of gas-run iron on the wall) - ah damn, forget the energy monitoring and just return to screaming at everybody when the bill arrives the following quarter it warms the house a bit and could possibly cut my heating bill!

A true tale for how many here I wonder?

And don't forget, that's just for gas - now the old electrickery bill is another rant.

A rather tongue-in-cheek

Cash

Who has decided that after spending a small fortune over the last few years on house insulation etc and all *possible* changes have been made [1] - it is simply less worrying to pay the gas bill by monthly DD and let the summer months usage sort out the winter months worries. ROTFL

My commiseration's to those who really are having problems paying for their energy (and to those I would advise that they seek all the help that is out there from *REPUTABLE* companies to ease that burden) - and not those simply paranoid about it.

[1] Apart from the boiler which is a conventional Baxi, in good order and it's not economical to change at moment - when it packs-up beyond repair then it will be.
