Two boxes - a condensor unit that goes outside, and an air handler that goes inside. They are connected via pipework to allow the refrigerant to pass round the circuit between them. The air handler recirculates air inside, cooling it and also disposing of any water that condenses out of it as well. The heat is dissipated using a fan assisted radiator in the exterior box.
A monoblock is a single unit with both boxes in one. They reciculate air to cool and dehumidify it, but they also need to take some air from the room to dump the excess heat into, which they then pump out a pipe sticking out a window etc. They may collect condensed water in a tank, although some evaporate it into the outgoing air stream.
