dunno where else to ask..I reckon to know, or have a book to describe MOST common fungi, but this one has me beat.
Type: Some sort of boletus. Its in company with other boletes, and its definitely a tube rather than gill fungus.
Size: Cap 5-15cm. Stipe similar and slender.
Color: a dead livid white. As white as any Amanita Virosa. Which it ain't!
Other distinguishing features: some slight veil..tubes are a little greyer and darker than the cam or stem. Cap ages towards the tube color.
Location: deciduous woods on dampish clay over chalk type soil.
I'll take my camera next time.
I know of no dead white boletes at all...anyone know better?
