OT: India joins the EU!

It must have, or how else could it join CERN as we are constantly told that the price of Brexit is that we will be denied access to all European projects?...

CERN has nothing to do with membership of the EU. Even the EEC didn't exist when CERN was founded.

Are you sure? Remoaners have assured me that we will be cut off from any European organisation if we leave the EU.

Or is what is written there just simply all lies?

I think we know that

the point is that most pan-European research projects have nothing to do with the EU, but the Remainers constantly claimed that we would be denied access to them if we left the EU.

There was a someone on youtube via facebook telling a women that if she voted to leave she wouldn't be able to go to disney world in France......

Not sure if it was one of these fake FB stories or just taking the piss out of how stupid remainers can be.

So are you stating quite categorically there are no EU projects that we are currently in that we won't be denied access to after leaving?

Or are you just one of those that thinks *everything* in Europe is controlled by the EU?

Do you think it will be as easy to go on a day trip to Disney World after we leave the EU? If it is, there's going to be a lot of BREXITEERS very very unhappy. Because they want borders controlled.

Possibly. Possibly not. We will lose our membeship of the following organisations, and whilst the response in some cases is "Good!" and in others "Meh", it will nonetheless be the case that we will have to set up, staff & fund all the others;

European Agency for Safety and Health at Work European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions European Environment Agency European Institute of Innovation and Technology European Training Foundation European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction European Medicines Agency European Union Intellectual Property Office[ Community Plant Variety Office Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union European Food Safety Authority European Maritime Safety Agency European Aviation Safety Agency European Network and Information Security Agency European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control European GNSS Agency European Railway Agency European Fisheries Control Agency European Chemicals Agency European Institute for Gender Equality European Defence Agency European Institute for Security Studies European Union Satellite Centre European Police College European Police Office European body for the enhancement of judicial co-operation Fundamental Rights Agency Body of European Regulators of Electronic Communications European Systemic Risk Board Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators European Banking Authority European Securities and Markets Authority European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority European Asylum Support Office European Agency for the operational management of large-scale IT Systems in the area of freedom, security and justice[ European Border and Coast Guard Agency

isn't CERN headquartered in Switzerland?

People over simplifying things again I think In fact we will be both in the Cern and ESA as it will just cost us a bit more as outsiders, that is all.

I am sure that the bit that says 'It is hard to say what impact a Brexit vote would have on CERN and ESA.' is completely true. However, not being in Europe, much less the EU, hasn't stopped Israel from being a member state of CERN. As for the ESA, given our rate of success with Mars landers, we might be better off giving up on space exploration entirely.

Noooo! Spend *more* money on that.

We don't have a Health & Safety Executive?

We don't have an Environment Agency?

We don't have an MHRA?

We don't have a Patents Office?

We don't have a Food Safety Authority?

We don't have a CAA?

We don't have an NHS?

Aarrgh ... unfortunately we *do* have an Equalities Commission, or whatever it is called now.

You don't expect any border controls then? I'd say you've not been paying attention.

Even you should have noticed that they are there right now.

I'd say you've not been paying

CERN is not an EU organization as TNP knows. He is just trying to divert attention from the gloomy forecasts on the UK economy. Its amazing how many brexiteers are still claiming the forecasts are wrong but are unable to produce anything themselves.

TBH if an agreement had been reached before the referendum which allowed the UK to stay in the EU but had far more stringent border controls on who could come and go then passing border control may have got a little more complicated anyway. That opportunity was missed/turned down and the exit vote won. I admit I voted remain ,that's because I still think those that run care homes, agricultural harvesting ,bus driving etc will still find a way to employ cheap labour from abroad and though many will call me racialist I would much rather see Poles and Hungarians who at the end of the day come with a European mind set, habits, and religious baggage that isn't too threating doing such jobs than people from places outside Europe who have completely different set of ethics. Still we can't turn the clock back now,any agreement for the UK to stay in the EU after all the present arguments could see some of the concessions we did have whittled down by the other members many of which have got thoroughly fed up with the UK attitude to the EEC/ EU. De Gaulle opposed Britains entry for years while he had the clout because he knew the UK would be half hearted about it. If there is an after life he is probably muttering je te l'avais dit.
