And end the BBC? Despite what you may feel a lot of material would simply not be produced any more. market forces are no match for public ownership when it comes to consumer choice for the minority markets. Brian

Frankly there is very little the BBC produces that I personally would miss, and if its that good well pay per view it.
Its now the worst of both worlds. Stuff is being produced using taxpayer money and is only avialable via netflix.

Yeah at the cost of the goverment having direct control of the broadcasters money supply. There's enough noise about lack of impartiality by the BBC now, what would it be like with a "state broadcaster"?

What are you trying to say? RTE went commercial and a lot of minority stuff vanished. Brian

Exactly what happened to ITV when Thatcher got her claws into it, so it could be given to her pals.

You're not forced to watch Strictly, you know. Lots of other things on.

Indeed, it's called theft, imagine if Tesco took a fee from everyone, even though they shopped at Asda!

You're very unlikely to get the best stuff like what Attenborough produced.

Whatever the quality, there should always be the freedom of choice, to pay for whatever channels you prefer. If you like the BBC, get a license fee and watch the BBC. If you prefer ITV, then pay for that or put up with their adverts, but you shouldn't be paying one company to use another, that's THEFT. The BBC is stealing money from Sky/ITV/etc.
