Amazing Amazon

Last week, I ordered something from Amazon with free (3 - 5 working days)delivery at 10am on Wednesday, it turned up at 1pm Thursday. This week, I ordered something on late Thursday afternoon, it arrived this morning (Sunday) at 11am. Yes, I admit I'm becoming an Amazon addict. I've almost given up on CPC even with their next day delivery.

CPC's delivery has slipped since they left UPS for Royal Mail. It's day after. But their packing depatment is wierd. I orderd a couple of items which would have gone ina large jiffy bag - they came in a box more than

12" cube.

If the items comes from Amazon themselves then delivery can be good. However, Amazon are also a web portal for other third party companies and, in my experience, some of these are not to good on delivery times.

I'm sure that some of the staff at CPC play the game of seeing how large a box that they can use. I've also (non-breakable) items that could have been packed in a large jiffy bag delivered in a very large box which was 99% filled with their 4"x 4" bubble wrap.

Hmph! Last time I ordered 7 things from 5 suppliers they arrived on 4 separate days, not one of which was as forecast. For anything small enough I'll get it delivered to the Aldi in N'pton and pick it up on the way to the pub (any excuse).

They do seem to have upped their game recently. I ordered a satellite TV card and got a PCI one, thinking I had a spare slot in the PC. On checking, the board is all PCI-e. Amazon picked up the card and even though I told them it was my fault and offered to pay return postage and restocking, they gave me a full refund.

It's now my first port of call for anything I need.

I have just put in my first complaint to Amazon - something they are selling themselves.

I ordered on 17/11/13 knowing it to be not available. About a month later they sent an email saying still not available. Now, almost another month later, still not available, I complained as I don't think that is adequately keeping me informed. Now they cannot tell me what is happening to cause the delay, and simply invited me to cancel.

In reality I could have got it elsewhere, but with both a slightly higher price and P&P on top, working out towards 25% more.

Have now ordered from elsewhere when I found it at an OK price, at last.

Amazon used to be a place I'd avoid unless I thought it really was being supplied by Amazon - had a lot of delays with "marketplace" folks.

These days, I've not had a single problem with the suppliers - only with the fact that a lot of the time, the cheap delivery option elects to use Yodel are are a sack of s**te.

However, since discovering that Cranbrook has Amazon lockers in the CoOp (I'm over there 1.5 times a week) - I've rather more gone down that route.

Even though Amazon seem to be getting kicked about for the way it treats its workers/slaves?

Yes with lots ofgags of air in it as well. I did wonder if some enterprising terrorist might try filling these with nerve gas though. Bit of a worry. Brian

I've not had bad issues with their third party suppliers for computer bits and things. The only problem I had was one CD that never arrived from a specialist importer, however it was replaced. I hope the postman enjoyed it.

If they're not busy they will send out stuff on free delivery quickly.

The problem I have had with Amazon is that some parcels are badly packaged and items have been damaged on delivery. Also they use Yodel/RM who are crap.

Amazon has a competent legal department. "We only accept your offer, and conclude the contract of sale for a product ordered by you, when we dispatch the product to you and send e-mail confirmation to you that we've dispatched the product to you (the "Dispatch Confirmation E-mail")."

In other words, the OP has offered to buy, Amazon has not yet accepted that offer, and there is no contract to have an implied term in it.

I think Martin is right. And, up to a point, fair enough. I expected and was willing to accept a delay. But it actually turned into something close to false advertising - and lacked the customer communication which I had hoped for.

Would a failure to give a delivery date be a misleading omission under Regulation 6 of The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations

2008? It certainly could lead a consumer to make a different decision if they knew delivery would take several months.

Ordered from them yesterday. Paid extra for next-day delivery (or whatever they call it). Acknowledgement email arrived at 16:43. Now, their website states 'Same day dispatch - on orders placed before 7pm (Mon-Fri)'. Checked this morning and the order status still shows as processing. If I knew it was going to not be shipped until today I wouldn't have bothered paying for delivery. Hmmm.

It gets stuck on that sometimes anyway. You may yet get it today.

Indeed - it turned up this morning.
