Football was a better game when it was played outdoors.
I recall games where the field got so muddy due to rain...that the
yardlines had to be redrawn often and the uniforms got so muddy you
could not read the numbers and even the announcers had a hard time
figuring out who was who.

We also knew that if Green Bay was at home playing a team from the South
and it was -20F the odds were very good for Green Bay.
OTOH: Not so good for GB if they had to play in the South on one of
those hot and humid days.
I'm not a football fan at all which means I'm an evil heretic here in
Alabamastan. I attended classes at The University of Alabama when I was
in the womb and I don't care about Alabama football either. Both my
parents were alumni and I attended some classes there but I care nothing
about football. My father was a big football fan and when a game came
on, you couldn't tear him away from the TV set. I must have a recessive
gene which makes me immune to football hysteria. ^_^
Although navigating the national healthcare is definitely a mess, I was
very surprised that the Social Security System worked very smoothly for me.
I went in early on a Monday morning with /no/ appointment and they said
they could take me...but with no appointment it could be a long wait.
It was an hour...no big deal.
After my interview I was told that I'd receive an answer by mail in
approximately 90 days.
On the 91st day I got a favorable reply...it was as simple as that.
I don't know about communism but socialism sure is. here are a few
highlights from the socialists' platform from 100 years ago...
Socialists in 1912 had a strong platform upon which to base a campaign.
Here are some of the highlights from the Socialist Party Convention that
took place in Indianapolis-
Tax Reform-The adoption of a graduated income tax, the increase of the rates
of the present corporation tax and the extension of inheritance taxes..
(Of course, an income tax won't affect YOU, just a few of the rich)
Minimum Wage-By establishing minimum wage scales.
(That did a lot of good, didn't it? An end to poverty...)
Direct Election of President-The Election of the President and
Vice-President by direct vote of the people.
Social Insurance- ..a general system of insurance by the State of all its
members against unemployment and invalidism and a system of compulsory
insurance of their workers, without cost to the latter, against industrial
diseases, accidents and death.
(Hell, why limit it to "industrial"?)
Also in the platform was woman's suffrage, public ownership of utilities and
a shortened work day.
Much of this came to pass. Other aspects of this platform may still someday
* probably and unfortunately
The Americans who did that along with our allies eventually allowed
an American president to give a Christmas speech from the White House
This is how to give a speech celebrating the birth of the Savior.
I think he said "I" once.
