My house has been through several hail storms and Farmers Ins refuses to give me a new roof. I have a wood shake roof; I was told 2 different things. First my ins agent told me if I replaced the roof on my own the ins would charge me 1% of the value of my house, then he told me it would be 2%. I can't find anything in my policy regarding this. Is this legal? The amount they have for my house is also much more than its selling value. They have had an asphalt roof listed since the beginning of my policy. I filed a claim for the roof in 2009 after a bad hail storm and they told me my roof wasn't damaged and "I wasn't hit by the hail". I'm beside myself in what to do and currently praying for a major hail storm. What ins companies will insure for a wood shake roof and how can I get an asphalt one? I've had Farmers ins for over 10yrs
