Outside AC unit makes black smoke and quits

What manufacturer and model on that outside unit? So, is the fan in the outside unit turning and is the compressor running? Compressor is below the fan, and it's the source of most noise the unit makes. Unfortunately, I have to add that black smoke (with a distinctive smell of electric insulation burning) is usually a sign of a repair that needs to be performed by a qualified technician.

I changed the filters in my unit and when I turned it back on it wouldn't blow cold! A friend of mine told me to cut it off and flip the Brakers in case it tripped one. When I did that the outside unit turned on and a big puff of black smoke came out of it. I want to know if I broke it or why it would do that and why my a/c won't blow cold air now?! Any advice?
