If this is an older furnace it is possible that it has a pilot flame. If so, if it is out the unit will not heat. There should be a sticker on the cover panel, possibly on the inside with instructions for lighting it. If it is less than ten years old it probably has a automatic ignition system.

has new batteries, my gas bill is paid and gas has not been shut off, checked circuit breaker and it is on, even turned it off and back on, ... is there a pilot light that may be out? I am a single mom and haven't a clue what to look for other than the above... can't afford a service call at this time. Any one out there who might be able to help me? Yes, the thermostat is set on heat, also. Appreciate anyone who might have a suggestion or two...thanks!!
