II live in a small farm in an area where the electricity tends to be every now and then switched of by the elec. company. I use solid fuel for heating (during winter about 18h per day) and thought it to be a good idea to try and build a wood/coal heated steam electric generator run from my wood burning oven. This would help me overcome any future blackouts.
Any ideas?

You fire up the boiler and charge up you battery bank. This process should take about two hours. You shut down the steam gen-set and run off the battery bank the next 22 hours, then you repeat the operation.
Steam gen-set... Are you talking about a commercially available product or in general terms? Because nowadays when people say "steam generator" they usually mean an exact opposite - a device that <b>takes</b> electricity to produce steam from water for saunas, laundries and such.

"steam generator" they usually mean an exact opposite - a device that takes electricity to produce steam from water for saunas"  I'm talking about using steam to drive an engine fixed to a device that produces electricity.  Looking through Google I noticed that the Chinese manufacture steam operated electric generators. Not sure about the quality of these products. The thing is that I would love to try and build my own generator. I do not have much knowledge of steam engineering however I'm not too bad at learning any experience is more than welcome.  Thanks for the link!
