TrollFilter changes

A new version of the TrollFilter is now available. Those of you who have been around for a while can probably figure out why.

IMPORTANT: The method of retrieving the TrollFilter has changed. I've taken down the email autoresponder, and replaced it with a (hopefully) much more convenient method of obtaining the file. Simply visit this URL

download the filter file directly through your browser.

So very childish.

While I can't use your filter, it's terrific that you're still maintaining it, Doug.

On behalf of the wreck, I'll be presumptuous to say "thank you".

And there's no Mac version of the nfilter program, is there? Too bad.

Not a big deal for me... My software and wetware filters work pretty well.

My news reader, Thoth, supports regular expressions so it's pretty easy to get the results I want.

Or else we could just save some time and change the newgroup name to rec.woodworking.inappropriate.jokes.

Isn't that "family-friendly" moderated woodworking group that the twit in the wheelchair started still out there?

(Don't recall his name... Just as well)

It was Frodo or Ferdie or Whacko or something like that. Somebody (Joat?) pinned the nickname Frito on him and it stuck. At the beginning of the rants I suspected the current character was indeed Frito trying again to take over the newsgroup. I looked him up on Google and he just appeared out of thin air last fall. All the chest beating, teenage angst and wasted bandwidth convinced me my suspicion was correct. I immediately activated my anti-troll protocol..

A quick twitting and a couple of topic filterings fixed this foolishness. The Wrec was back to interesting woodworking topics and discussions. I apparently missed some good jokes, but did get a chance to catch up on unread messages. Life is good. DNFTMFT.

Vito Kuhn, IIRC ....

I don't think it ever did get started. The original proposal to moderate this group was shot down in flames. So was the second one (creating a new group rec.woodworking.moderated). The third one (creating a new unmoderated group rec.woodworking.all-ages) was eventually withdrawn, after it came to light that there was massive fraud in the voting for its creation.

Vito Kuhn and Susan Welchel.

I don't think it's the same guy. Neil's an agressive do-gooder. Frito was just a whiner.

You're right, and your memory is perfect as usual.

pinned the nickname Frito

Now _there_ is a name which strikes fear (or at least total boredom) into the hearts of people upon its very mention. I recall plonking him eons ago. He even started a new moderated wannabe-Wreck, didn't he?

I am offended, Guiness is a wonderful drink!

You should not be making fun of it in such a way.

I will complain to the net nanny.
