Taper Jig-Help!!

Just bought a taper jig, no instructions included. Just want to taper some 1x4 pine. Would like the same taper on both sides of the board 6 inches long. Any help appreciated Thanks Skip My goal is 2 inches at the bottom 4 inches at the top, both sides tapered evenly.

Just a guess, but set the taper at 1/2 of the total desired taper?

And the problem you have is that, once you've tapered one side of the board, there's nothing left at that corner to set against the stop, right? The basic problem with many commercial taper jigs is that the stop isn't nearly big enough.

Try using double-sided carpet tape to attach a sacrificial wood block to the taper jig to act as a stop. Make this block at least half as wide as the board you are tapering. Set the board against the wooden stop, and adjust the jig and the rip fence so that you get the cut you want. Then make your taper cut, cutting right through the wooden stop as well. Then flip the board over, and taper the other side.
