Ridiculous new tool from Woodpeckers

There are a few on here that laugh at SS and Festool. Every one sells something that someone does not like.

Do zip lock bags count? If yes, I have and will continue too.

My first thought was "zip lock bags?", but then I realized I have my new & used tack cloths in a zip lock bag. .... biting my tongue!

I don't know any laughing at SS or Festool. May can't justify the cost and that's completely understandable. I can't justify HF power tools, so...

No, but sometimes a crazy or ridiculous thing does more good than harm. If you're nothing but a joke you'll be treated that way, but if you've got a solid core you may find the ridiculous side actually nets you customers you never would have had.

An April 1st joke is one thing. A *totally* useless, expensive POS doesn't do the reputation any good. As I said, I really like their tools but a friend and I laughed a lot at the doweling jig. This is _much_ worse.

I have to wonder how it got authorized to spend the money to even set up to make and sell them. It had to be someone high up that actually thought it was a great idea. I bet at least a few people saw it and ordered though.

I'm sure there are people who order every "One Time Tool". Some are useful, some are ridiculous.

I'm looking from a different stand point. I already do not care for Woodpeckers business model so from that stand point adding a brand product that is way over priced seems par for the course. Basically for me their reputation was already tarnished. I do not however think this tarnishes the quality of the tools that they manufacture. Either way if there is an audience that buys this particular product they will be making sales, the name of the game. If Woodpeckers did not have the advantage of being the manufacturer of many quality tools I would not buy anything from them. 99% of the time i only go to their site, with out being lured in, to look at the tools that they manufacture.

Jack, and remember Larry Jaques and the occasional troll.

I don't think that Woodpeckers manufacturers this particular product. The name on the box is a company that manufacturers this product. I'm guessing the bag that this company manufactures is probably a good and durable product in the field. In the shop, way over kill and therefore way over built and priced.

Exactly.

You had to remind me?

His sockpuppets make all sorts of animal noises but do you really read his posts for anything other than as a comic relief?

(I've probably gained a new fanboi with this post)

My point is that the ridiculous ones tarnish the brand. At least the doweling jig was pretty, sorta Bridge City-esque (winch more about art than woodworking), and useful. The bags are both ugly and useless.

I don't think they make sense for a shop, but I wouldn't say that they are "useless".

I can see something like that being used by vendors at a crafts show or maybe in an outdoor kitchen or similar locations where set-up and tear-down is a on going activity. The loaded bags could be stored/transported in bins and hooked to the rail during set-up. e.g. a vendor could keep all the items required to run his booth (tools, paperwork, flyers, etc) in the bags for quick and easy set-up and tear-down.

(Yes, there are other options, but the bags would certainly do the trick.)

They're being sold for shop use. "WoodPeckers"

I'd think one would want something more organized and not likely to dump over.

When I got the email from Woodpeckers, I immediately thought of several practical purposes for those bags that I would use on, probably, a weekly basis.

Then I looked at the price. :-) IIRC, I saw similar bags with clips at HD for much, much less.

Hey Ed, others, Many months ago (May, to be more precise)I sent a message to their presiden t Rich Hummel suggesting they make some quick connecting tool holsters or h olders for the Festool worktables; Holders that could attach to the inside or outside rails on the tables with a twist lock device. I wanted to call them "Sys-penders" Rich sent this reply back:

"Marc,

That's an intriguing idea. I've thought the same thing while using my MFT, at least the idea of being able to hang stuff along the outside track to ke ep it in easy reach.

We'll discuss it and let you know if it's something we might be able to wor k on.

Richard Hummel / President"

Well, he never got back to me, I guess Calavera had more influence.
