His brother lives in Calgary and on a visit, Leonard gave a talk to our
woodworking society (Bob & I were on the committee). He told us the
story of the surgical tool side of LV. Apparently, a hand specialist
found that a particular LV knife was perfect for some surgeries and so
LV became involved and they eventually developed holding devices with
rare earth magnets that the surgeon could use to hold back flesh etc.
The magnetic bases would naturally fix onto the operating table and
could be moved and adjusted to suit the operation. That division
developed from there.
