I got a piece of Jarrah to use for a replacement part of a wind chime, >the old wood cracked under weather. What sealer would be appropriate? >I don't want to change the appearance much, paint would not be a good >idea.

for outdoor projects i often use Spar urethane. it holds up well, and is intended for high moisture areas, such as a boat. lol

made with tung oil and other stuff. Is that what I want? Is it possible, or desirable, to get pure tung oil?

Thanks

Poly the livin' hell out of it! Pay no attention to the misplaced Californican behind the curtain! And only use Minwax Poly!

three paint stores, none hardware store, none Borgs, none unfinished furniture store, none hardwood store, none.

I'll be near a Woodcraft store next week, if none there then it's off to mail order.

Formby's says it has tung oil, along with other oils. Might be linseed, might be Penzoil, who knows.

Maybe the butcher shop, get some tongue oil?

how expensive of a finish do you want to go????? cheap = spar varnish, does the wood no justice...(love that response by the way on spar varnish)

$$$ = try exterior polymerized tung oil...www.sutherlandwelles.com...

remember one important thing about this board, when it comes to finishes, there are as many opinions as their are posts..and they are all right! good luck
