RE: O/T: "Hello"

On 01/23/2015 the price of gas was $2.19/gal.

On 02/25/2015 the price of gas was $3.03/gal.

Let's see, that's an $0.84/gal increase in 33 days.

$3.039/$2.199 = 1.38% increase

As the lyric from an old show tune goes, "nice work if you can get it, and you can get it if you try."

I think the % is a little more than 1.38, but then I am no mathematician. Maybe that is the new math. I get 38% increase, but again, I am an amateur.

Better try again, Lew.

3.039 - 2.199 = 0.84 0.84 / 2.199 = 0.38

G. Ross is right -- the increase is 38%.

Wrong again! A 138% increase, one hundred thirty eight percent increase would be about $6.67. A 100% increase would be double.

The correct formula is 2.199 + 38% = 3.034

On 01/23/2015 the price of gas was $2.19/gal. On 02/25/2015 the price of gas was $3.03/gal. On (02/26/15), the price of gas is now $3.13/gal On (02/27/15), the price of gas is now $3.19/gal On (02/28/15), the price of gas is now $3.25/gal

Let's see, that's an $1.06/gal increase in 36 days.

$3.259/$2.199 = 1.482 increase if you want a budget item

As the lyric from an old show tune goes, "nice work if you can get it, and you can get it if you try."

No, that is actually a 1.06 increase....as you first indicated in the sentence above the last. You are only talking dollars up to this point.

Now if you said a "1.482 "Percent"" increase, you would then be correct.

It is becoming much more easy to understand how the citizens are being sold all of this "stuff" the government is selling.
