Re: Hinged Bookshelf - pic on a.b.p.w now

Great thought; the problem is twofold though: 1) I need that space for storage of my network stuff and as a "secret hiding place"; and 2) the roof slopes down at a 45 so that I wouldn't have clearance at the top of the shelves for a swing in unit.

Like I said, great ideas though - thanks for the thoughts!!!

FOr those interested, I've put a pic of the rough opening on a.b.p.w. Any > comment on this topic are greatly appreciated. I'll post more in the coming > week(s) as I get around to doing the project... > > --Henry >

After seeing the picture, I think that you would be better off having the shelves swing into the hidden space. You'll be able to have a wheel or caster on the inside to take a lot of the weight (and bookshelves carry a LOT of weight). Trim the opening with a picture frame so the bookcase closes against the trim and there won't be any gaps.
