Perhaps seperate group for INSPIRATION posts.

MM... let me see..

NO

Good lord, of all the crap in here you object to that the most?

Here is an easy way to get thoughts from JOAT: Write the following, or something like it:

"I searched for free plans for a futon but could not find any. Does anybody have free plans for one?"

A subject like "Anyone got free plans?" will help it gain the attention it deserves.

I give you a pretty good chance on hearing from him. While you are at it, you could try emailing him privately and asking for some as well.

alt.woodworking.plans already exists. Seems like nobody much is using it, though.

Have fun!

Amen!!!

If you want a collection of those pages, do what I do, copy and paste those of interest into a text file for future reference. If they aren't of interest, just pass them by. I view them like opening a wrapped gift . . . we never know what we are going to get, but they are all related to woodworking.

Frankly, I love em!

It's not a binary newsgroup so I have to ask, would it be appropriate for the posting of binaries? Usenet etiquette would say no, but that doesn't deter everybody these days.

You are a vile and dispicable person, and the Woodworking Gods are on their way to the God of Spam's place as I type. You'll get mail!

JOAT Charity ain't giving people what you wants to give, it's giving people what they need to get.

Usually it's your news provider/ISP who determines whether or not you can post a binary to a non-binary group. Any responsible one won't allow it.

To all the comments "get a normal newsreader", you live in a cloistered, home based world. I travel every week and I'm on hotel and client networks throughout the week. There is NO way to use an offline newsreader in these firewalled, restricted environments. You have to use a web based approach to reading. So what's the big deal?

Well, on days like Monday, when there were 35 (yes 35!) inspiration posts, I had to wade through nine screenfuls of the stuff to find other messages buried in there. Selfish? You bet. I'm not alone. There are thousands of people like me who travel and have limited tools on the road to enjoy the news groups. Its about balance. 35 a day is out of balance.

I travel a fair amount and stay in cheesy places like Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express.

I've never had a problem using Agent in any of these places.

Nine screenfulls? Let's see, 35 posts divided by 9 would be slightly under 4 posts per screen. Small screen? They were not all in one lump sum, there were other posts in between.

Thousands on rec.woodworking? Probably not.

Balance? 35 inspiration posts in one day was a one time deal. Probably. It was a good day. Of course, on a good day, when I was doing a lot of personal searches, I have been know to post about that many free plans in one day. Nothing to bitch about really, in the past we've probably gotten more than that in obscene trolls posts in one day

- on many days. I figure my inspirational posts are better than that, any day.

Usenet is not the web. The fact that there are web interfaces to access Usenet is irrelevant to Usenet, IMO.

The problem you have is that you are using the wrong interface to access news groups, plain and simple. The reasons *why* you are using that interface is also irrelevant to Usenet, IMO.

You can ride a moped on the freeway, but don't expect other drivers to slow down to 25 mph so you can read their licence plates.

Tom,

What source of newsgroups do you subscribe to? Can you get ABPW on the road? I'll look into agent. Many of the networks I am on block the ports used by newsreaders - especially client networks.

Wrong interface? When did software become a moral issue?
