OT: Was Yoo Hoo I got a new job!

are you serious? I know misery loves company, but to revel in the thought that many others also lost their jobs sounds pretty cold hearted, Puff.

Well my string of bad luck just keeps getting worse. I got laid off = my new job after 1 week. I cant believe this is happening to me I must = have done something truly evil in my youth. I guess I should be thankful = the lay off reached folks that had been at the company for 2 years so a = one week investment is not that bad. Puff

I interpreted his comment as to explain that it probably wasn't something he did wrong. Just a victim of circumstance. I don't see where he's reveling. Just my observation...

A simple misunderstanding Dave I was saying I don't have it as bad as = they do. I guess I said it wrong. Puff

That's a bummer for you ...apparently management doesn't have the intelligence to NOT hire new employees a week before layoffs of that magnitude? I am surprised some enterprising lawyer hasn't found this scenario fertile ground for lawsuits.

I have a friend who works in IT for a large airline ... the stories he tells of management incompetence are chilling.

I predict that these manifestations of the "dumbing down" are just beginning ... in 20 years this is going to be a third world country with English as its second language.

I'd only argue about the timing. I figure 10-15 years.

Puff, Did they pay you for the week you worked ?

I've been in a similar situation, wasn't even around long enough for the 'paperwork' to go through and never got paid.

{Yes - went to the 'State Authorities', and that was a ridiculous waste of time and a LOAD of aggravation. Also, it would have cost more in legal fees than I would 'recover', to go with a 'private' attorney}

Damn man! I really hate to hear that. And I was getting ready to mail you and ask how it was going!!! I am really sorry to hear that. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you. And my offer still goes, what ever wood I got, you got. ASAMOF I got to head down to dads afterwhile, so I think I'll stop by the place and pick up some more maple. You want me to get you anything while I'm down there???

Ron Magen responds:

I got paid on one of those back when I was in college. Simply dropped the business owner a note saying I was not happy and would head to the authorities if I didn't get a resolution from him. Got the resolution in a week. Maybe less. That was nearly 40 years ago.

If you're gonna mess with a lawyer, do the 50% fee bit and add pain and suffering and mental anguish to the list.

that's cool! I know the feeling of being misunderstood quite well. :) hope your co-workers and you find equal or better employment soon.

I see how I misinterpreted your earlier post; you left off a semi-colon after "thankful". That would have changed the meaning of the sentence to you were thankful that you got laid off without much investment of time at the company.
