Somebody wants to move in with you. NYou agree. Next thing you know, they throw out all your beer, want their own food, and the women walk around with tents on their heads and get set on fire if they look at you the wrong way.
You'd want them to leave after a while.
This has nothing to do with bigotry.

Hear hear!!! I have been e member of that club as long ago as when Canada accepted my sorry ass. Some of my relatives, already here, never bothered to adapt. Bread in "The Old Country" was better and so on. One night, the whole family was celebrating an uncle's birthday and they started up again with that shit. Granted, I MAY have been in my cups a little, but I just lost it. I told them exactly what I thought. I joined a drama club, looked for a mentor, practiced my diction in front of a mirror with a tape recorder. I did not want to sound like one of my relatives. I think I succeeded...mmmm about 95%. Dresses that make women look like a bag of groceries? Sharia law? Ya nuts?
Rudd's da man!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regardless of whether or not the article is real, Rudd is running for re-election and he is backing and filling all over the place. Just yesterday he backed off Cap&Trade.
I heartily concur with your sentiments about the "Old Country". I was an immigrant to the US at 8 years of age and very quickly became acculturated. Had my moment with the family one evening when I was 16 and my mother was whining for the umpteenth time about "they didn't do this at Home". Told them *I* was "home", this country was my "home", not the land of plodders and dole collectors she constantly referred to as "home" and why did she stay here if it was all that bad. A nasty but worthwhile experience. The parents moved back, my sister married an English minister and lives there and I'm still here - the Last of the Mohicans :o)

One Atta Boy comin' your way, sir. Here in the USA, the Melting Pot idea is being unplugged, but that's what made America work. 'Tis sad.

Drama queen, eh? I _knew_ it!

Won't you go blind doing that?

Hooah! Even if the post proves to be untrue, it's a dialog which has to be spoken, loudly, and heard. Followup below:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/australia.asp shows it pretty much true, though spoken in much milder language, but combined from a few different sources and attributed only to Rudd.

I get stuff like this from far too many of my friends. When you call them on it, they contest Snopes saying it's obviously left wing. Then, when Fact or Fiction says the same thing Snopes does, they don't respond.
I've got a friend right now who is whining in disbelief that Obama appointed someone without judicial experience--he "can't believe it!"
I sent him some facts about the early Supreme Court, including some Washington (George, not D.C.) appointees with no judicial experience, including a couple of the Founding Fathers.
No response.
If you want to believe something badly enough, checking facts becomes anathema. Most people just grab at whatever motion that's on the same wavelength as their biases.

You got that right. When facts conflict with beliefs, facts are ignored. Check the letters to the editor in any newspaper - it's not just the online folks.
Just this morning, a letter in the local paper castigated someone for believing the Earth was over 4000 years old. Ah well, it keeps things amusing.

This post reminded me of a phrase I've heard of (not heard) about "the friendly reach-around". I believe it's quite fitting, too.

Attaboy, don't let anyone tell you that posting made-up bullshit isn't your right! If you want to believe a bogus chain e-mail written for gullible mouth-breathers, then you go right ahead and do it, don't let some elitist college-boy who checks sources and other fairy tree-hugging bullshit like that tell you what to do! You got a right to be stupid if you want to be stupid, it's right there in the Constitution, someplace.

Nobody's done anything about illegal immigration.
The Democrats like the potential voters.
The Republicans -- a subsidiary of Big Business -- like the cheap labor.
EVERY administration likes the GDP boost.
Looking at this as a purely partisan issue, as you just did, is about the best way I know of to prove that you're an idiot.
Bravo !
