Whole world needs a leader like this!
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd - Australia
Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday, March 17th 2010 to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks..
Separately, Rudd angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote:
'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT.. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians. '
'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'
'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'
'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'
'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'
'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'
'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'
Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves in Canada & USA , WE will find the courage to start speaking and voicing the same truths.
If you agree please SEND THIS ON and ON, to as many people as you know

Like so many of these chain e-mail things, this one is accuracy-challenged. This version stitches together statements by a series of people (Australian politicians and others) and claims they're all the work of Rudd; an earlier version claimed they were the words of the previous Prime Minister, John Howard.
In general, phrases such as, "If you agree please SEND THIS ON and ON, to as many people as you know," should be a red flag that the contents should not be taken at face value. I don't know why people fall for these things so readily, there are almost always warning signs--I guess people like to accept something that supports what they already believe.

Lew, I suspect that if you lived near the border of Mexico and/or you had to tolerate some of the culture as I do you might change your mind. I have many friends of Mexican ancestry and my wife is the daughter of Mexican immigrants but the "new wave" of illegals has created an environment here in EL Paso that is hard to take. I like Mexican food, much of the music and some of the family traditions but when my neighbor flies the Mexican flag and wants the local schools to fly it as well, I find it annoying. I also dislike seeing autos parked in the front yard in a middle class subdivision and houses painted in gaudy colors. And, mentioning the music, I prefer to listen to it at a sound level that doesn't travel several blocks. It irritates me a bit to see coarse, vulgar behavior at PTA meetings. I'm sure the local police find it a bit disconcerting when, at a routine traffic stop, they are called names and told about what "rights" the offender has. It bothers me somewhat when I learn that a significant number of students at local schools are from Juarez, Mexico and the school district needs to raise taxes to accommodate them. The University Medical Center here collects taxes and treats illegals on an ongoing basis. My real estate taxes help to pay the costs. I realize that my country and it's culture has plenty of room for improvement but I feel confident that the Mexican culture is not a good replacement. As to religion, I'm tolerant until someone tells me what I "have to" believe.
YMMV.
Respectfully, Max

El Paso isn't as big as LA. It doesn't have as much capacity to absorb.
In fact, it's more *being* absorbed. So was San Antonio.

----------------------------------------------- So when was the last time you were in Los Angeles?
A day labor pool assembles every morning in the parking lot next door, less than 100 ft away from my home.
There are at least two large supermarkets, less than five miles away, that use Mexican Spanish as the primary language of communication (It's an adventure when this Midwest hick goes shopping in one of them).
The manager of my complex uses English as her second language.
The list goes on, but you get the idea.
Size of a city has nothing to do with tolerance.

Exactly, the rule of law!!! The same should hold true for anyone that hires them. Watched a group of Mexican landscapers spend hours on a million dollar property. After manicuring the grounds to a perfection they stopped to have lunch when done eating left for their next job and left all their lunch crap in plain view in the front yard. What kind of culture does that?

So if a crew of white multi-generation Americans had done the same (which wouldn't have been so unusual) would you blame the entire American culture?

You DO seem to understand the fundamentals of racism.
Contractors -- in LARGE numbers -- are slobs. You go looking around ANY jobsite -- regardless of ethnicity of the workers -- and there is SHIT ... everywhere.
Congrats to Evodawg: you're an idiot.

Screw you, I am a Contractor and the ones Ive dealt with have pride in what they do. Never seen a white, black or Asian group of workers leave a perfectly clean environment trashed without the intentions of returning right away to clean up the mess. Its obvious you have never been to Mexico. The Beach's are trashed, most of the homes if thats what you call them have shit everywhere. In order to live a somewhat normal life in Mexico you better have a 20 foot wall surrounding you home. Sound familiar, what most Americans want surrounding their Country! What a CONTRAST.... Wonder why that is?

So, from YOUR limited experience, you're PERFECTLY willing to generalize to MILLIONS of people ?
Great.

I presume you mean ... apart from my family owning a home there for 20 years, my month-long honeymoon, there, and the dozens of trips I've made apart FROM those cases ?
If THAT's what you mean, then, of course, you're correct.

Be grateful you live in a wealthy country that provides sanitation services.
I'm not particularly grateful that people like you live here, but YOU should be.
You have an incredibly narrow mind, experience set, and perspective, open to NO ideas or information save for that which you've already decided.
Shame.

So if the government doesn't clean up your shit, it's okay to live surrounded by it, and you have no responsibility to clean it up yourself?

No, slobs are slobs. Doesn't matter what language they speak.
You seemed to say that the difference was that the lack of government-provided sanitation was a valid excuse for living in filth. Did I misinterpret?

You *ardently* believe what you believe, seem fairly well read in nothing BUT what you believe, and -- like most of the crew, here -- aren't open to any other info or perspectives.

Yep. I am totally closed to other POVs.

Does asking for clarification = closed mind, in your world?
