O/T: Joe The Plumber

I just read an interesting observation that business was booming at twice the normal level during the Republican convention......at local gay bars. Makes sense, looking at the way they dress, fascists are so gay.

Joe the Woodworker is getting jealous.
Joe the plumber asked Obama if his taxes would go up if he bought a business and made over 250K. Obama told him they would. How difficult is that to understand? By the way, Joe is does not make enough to buy anyone's business, his boss's business is not for sale, the business would not net him over 250K (about 100k), and he would pay less tax now under Obama's plan.
McCain is the one who brought Joe into the national spotlight, along with all the investigations, which would have happened to anyone, left or right. Either McCain naively didn't know this would happen, or didn't care. In any case, it's clear that he didn't ask Joe the Plumber if he could use him as campaign fodder, and he certainly didn't vet him. It's just one gimmick after another with McCain, instead of real plans and policies for a new government. I don't want a President who attempts to lead by using gimmicks.

It's amazing how McCain has the same propensity that Bush has for acting before thinking. How much time would it have taken to look into "Joe's" background before using him as a stellar example of a small businessman. And how much time would it have taken for Bush to research the culture, mores and religious beliefs of the Iraqis before invading.

Actually I heard him say that he wanted to "buy" a plumbing company.

More specifically, he dreams of someday owning THE two person plumbing business he works for. He made 40k last year, and is a tax evader. Under Obabma's plan he would actually be better off than he is now.
He's not only working illegally, but so is his boss. Did you know that JOe is not only an illegal plumber and tax cheat, but he is also related to CHARLES KEATING of "Keating Five" fame. The whole thing was a sleazy setup by the McCain campaign from start to finish.

That relationship has since been debunked. Joe's last name is very common around those parts of Ohio. IF he's a relative, he'd be a distant one.

Actually it's alphabet soup time.
If you can pronounce the name, somebody will probably answer, "Here" in the state of Ohio.
Until I met my then future son-in-law, had never heard the name "Renato".

But, see, he's a Republican, so the simple fact that he appears to be a tax cheat without qualifications for the business he wants to "buy," and that he's related to a known crook, are none of the public's business.

Who cares about who Joe is or is not or whether or not he is licensed. The simple fact is, that if the business is worth 250k, the he will make something less then that, which puts him under Obama's threshold. Second, if he really were to make 250k, then boo 'freaking' hoo that he might have to pay more taxes. I would be happy to pay more in taxes if I could make 250k.
Another stupid stunt gone wrong.

Some might say "Why stop at 250, 100 is too much, or 70 is too much." That starts to reach deeper into middle class America. Give an inch and you lost a mile.

I think you are missing the point. In this country the spread between poor and rich has been increasing, in part because politicians "need" to be reelected and therefore cater to the highest bidder. The results have been tax breaks for the rich. This will have to be reversed so that not-so- wealthy people can better partake of the American way - which is supposed to be work hard and enjoy the rewards. Therefore the tax burden has to be somewhat rearranged. Wherever you are going to make the dividing line, some people are going to complain, some loudly enough to get the attention of politicians.
I think the best way to tax is to write new tax law eliminating 10 pages for every new page written. Get rid of loopholes and special considerations!

With a $2200 campaign contribution limit apparently the politicians can be bought rather cheaply.

Which tax breaks and loop holes have caused this demographic change? People always talk about these great tax deals but won't ever tell me what they are. When I ran a small business for 25 years I sure never found them.
You do know that the infamous Bush tax cut for the rich was 3% or dropped from 37% to 34%. At current rates with various state taxes its often crowding 45-50%.....Is there any particular number ethically or morally more correct that it should be?

I agree here on regulation and special considerations and probably would agree on loopholes if I knew what they were.....Rod

Actually Han, your missing the point. All Joe did was ask a question and Obama's t.v. station pounced on him. Why would anyone want a new tax, let alone one that gets put into a bank account and then spent for what ever this guy sees fit? I already pay welfare, for people who don't work, housing for people who can't afford it, food stamps for people who can't afford to eat, pre-school for people who have kids, retirement for people who forgot to save and even people who are too stupid to say no to mortgage to big for their paychecks to cover. Here in Illinois, I pay for insurance for kids I don't have, bus and train rides for people to tour around town on a train and bus I don't use, a governor to go to work every day in a private jet, and a senator who refuses to be a senator, but he wants to tax me more money to pay for what? In that case you might not like some of the recipes from Nobel laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz for battling the crisis, but on the bright side, you might like a few of his recommendations:

All of you have fallen for the media diversion of focusing attention on JTP. Why should any American have to suffer an anal probe just for asking a question. Not licensed? Are you the same people who don't care about illegal aliens. I'd be willing to bet an illegal wouldn't get a second look.
Why has the media not shown so much interest with the Ayers connection? Where is the anger and microscopic attention toward Charlie Rangel and his tax problems. Seems to me a sitting congressman should get a little more attention.
Where is the call for an investigation of the house banking committee and their roll in this meltdown that we have to pay for. And all the while collecting payoffs and sweetheart mortgage deals for themselves. Barney Frank and Chris Dodd must go. Remember the phrase "the seriousness of the charges demand an investigation"?
It's the ANSWER to the question that should be troubling. He wants to take a higher percentage of my and your hard earned money as a punishment for succeeding. And I'm supposed to work harder why??
I have to pay so "someone else can have a chance at success" ??? Just living here is your best chance. Plenty of legal immigrants have done very well in a short time by working hard. I know that sounds so mean, but it's true. And inspiring.
Does socialism not scare you a little? It should because it always leads to communism. And these tactics of attacking the messenger are very familiar to those who have had the pleasure of living in a communist country.

Hmmm. Why is it ok for the press to dig up everything about JTP and yet be called 'stalkers' when digging up the dirt on that family the Democrats were using to promote SCHIP.
Stinks of a double standard....
