New Project - Electric Upright Bass

Pictures are posted on alt.binaries.pictures.woodworking

Swamp ash body with bookmatched flame maple top. Neck is birdseye maple with a 1/4" walnut center stripe. Fingerboard and tailpiece are Macassar ebony. Finish is general Finishes Arm-R-Seal (the same stuff David Marks uses). The design is meant to capture the flavor of an upright bass, but more compact. The neck can actually be removed. The bass is almost completed, but needs a little electronics and setup work.

Hi Steve,

Nice job! It looks like the nut and saddle are made out of wood. Doesn't that dampen the strings?

Most acoustic bowed instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass) are traditionally the same ... nut, bridge and saddle of wood (traditionally ebony in the case of the nut and saddle).

It's indeed a beautiful piece of work ...
