Installing parquet floor with a paper base

Hi everybody, I have bought some parquet on a garage sale (1 sq. ft pieces) which consists of small oak planks glued together on a square piece of paper (no metal strings like in modern parquet). The paper base has rows of holes of about 1/4" in it. My question is: is this parquet ready to be installed, or the paper has to be removed somehow before installation? The parquet itself is new, but, I guess, it has been manufactured some time ago.

Thanks a lot!
