Festool prices

I just picked up a Festool TS 55 circular saw at a garage sale and I'd like to stock up on some blades. Does anyone know if there is an online distributor, or distributor on Long Island, NY, that has better prices? I know Festool is pretty tight about controlling the tool prices through their distributors - does that apply to the consumables as well? Thanks.

Particularly the consumables. But worth it. Did you get any track with it?

Yep, the 55" track, systainer, saw and an extra blade - lightly used for $200. I thought that was pretty reasonable. Of course I now need to get another track, the track joiners, more blades, and the Festool vacuum. :)

On the flip side, I get to sell a job site table saw and a circular saw that I don't really like (the thing hates me and manages to blow dust in my eyes on windless days even when I'm wearing safety glasses).

Gee, I wasn't going for the drive-by gloat, I was really just asking about buying extra blades! ;)

If it makes you feel any better, I also picked up a DW735 thickness planer. Anyone have one of them? I'm seeing some mixed reviews and I don't know if I should keep it or sell it.

You sucketh big time ...

Details .. were you the first one in the door, or did no one before you have a clue as to what they were looking at?

Inquiring minds ... :)

I was thinking that too. Garage sale and festool do not belong in the same sentence. But as cheaply as he acquired the basic saw, etc, he has gone over to the dark side. Festool will now suck unprecedented amounts of cash out of his wallet. It will never end. He will become a festool junkie. His life as he knows it is now over.

Did you get the leather and rhodium key fob, too ... (, you bastard)?

I was the first one at the door, and it was a strange thing - I pulled up as another car was pulling up (this is about half an hour before the posted start time), and you know how you can tell when people are "in the business"? Well, this guy gets out of the car and I ask him what he's there for to see if he's competition. Turns out it's the homeowner and the tools were not at the house. The tools were his step-father's, so he called him up and told him to bring them over. Good thing I didn't have more cash on me!

Garage sale listed on Craigslist. The rest of the stuff they were selling was, umm, what's the word? - right, crap.

I just whacked some wood and I can tell I'm going to have a lot of fun with it. Since you brought up the habit, how much should I budget for my monthly fix?

A friend of mine worked with a guy who picked up a camera case full of Hasselblad equipment. The guy who owned it had died and his daughter sold it 'because she couldn't find film for it" $ 500.00, which SHE thought was a lot of money. 3 Lenses, motor drive EL body, eye-level finder, 2 spare magazines and filters. Of course.... absolutely mint. So WHAT it was all 25+ years old...

Is that the latestes model with the feaux screws in the corners? Very expensive when new, IMHO too darn expensive when new considering you can get a 15" stationary planer fr a few hundred more. If you use one much your blades are going to be a constant out flow.

A buddy of mine is the absolute king of garage sales. He's picked up more stuff for less money than you could believe, and then he just socks the stuff away. I asked him what happens when he croaks and no one knows the value of the treasures he has stored. He replied that his wife would sell the stuff for pennies on the dollar at a garage sale just like he bought it. When the man's right, the man's right!

Monthly fix? I'd set a side $100 per month for your annual fix. LOL. Although I have not bought any Festool products in probably 18 months. GASP! When you get the vacuum dust becomes a lost memory. I have the vac , Domino and 2 sanders. The Festool Rotex sander and Festool Finish sanders are expensive, at least $600 for both BUT! Dust is no more. Oh and they are darn good sanders. I am working on some bedroom furniture and have been sanding with those units, no dust. I grabbed a sanding sponge simply to ease the edges of all the panels on the project and I was coughing and choking from all the dust that was introduced into the "clean room" from that event. ;~) Seriously they really do keep the dust at a minimum.

Freude make metric blades which fit festool and protool saws (I've got one on my protool). There's an italian company that also makes them but I can't remember the name.
