epoxy and finishes

Hi all

Building a rustic Kitchen table out of recycled pine floorboards and i want to fill the old nail holes, knot holes etc with 2 part epoxy, how will a limeing agent finish go covering the epoxy. will it take ok or tend to flake off ? (missus just wanted to paint it white, but i want the grain showing thru)

also have a few chips and missing splinters that i was going to use epoxy and sawdust to fill .... is that ok as well, tried it out on a scrap piece and it made a invisible repair to a large indentation, but concerned about how well a finish will take. wondering if it will stand out more if the finish doesn't take to the epoxy.

cheers

@#@ Epoxy does not take any type of stain etc. The stain has to be mixed into the mixture and of course be compatible. There are some good informational sites like, West and other epoxy manufacturer,s.
