Bending Maple

I've got a plan from an older Wood magazine issue to make a toboggan. They use ash in there project, would maple a good substitute for bending? The strips will be cut 1/16" in thickness and will be bent around a 16" form to make the front of the toboggan.

Depends what you have available. The main consideration is to use split timber (not sawn) that's as green as you can get it. I'd always use something I felld myself for this sort of task, and then I'd bend it that same week.

Choice of species is a minor issue - not everything works, but you should have something local that would.
