About Bay Area Dave

He's not stupid. People who respond to him are stupid [except newbies who don't know about him yet.] And that's what he relies on, which makes him smarter [a lot smarter, knowing the human condition] than the idiots who perpetuate his crap. So ...your choice.

Bill.

Bill, you are indeed correct. I love to push people's buttons. BUT, and it is a Big but, I'm interested mostly in pushing the buttons of folks who have been rude to me. I would never be rude to someone like, say Leon, or Mike in Mystic as they have always been helpful and decent. Which leads me back to my earlier comment today (?) about being a mirror. The folks I ride the hardest are those who have either told some tall tales about me or who have been utterly disrespectful.

I MUST note that over the course of time I might forget the poster's identity and respond totally out of synch with my true regard for that poster. I'm really bad with names so sometimes (hopefully SELDOM) I may have been rude to someone who never meant me any ill will. I take FULL responsibility for being an asshole when I shouldn't have been, but I make NO apologies for complaining bitterly to, and about, the "miscreants" who think they own this newsgroup. I used to refer to them also as the "woodworking gods". I was being too charitable. More appropriate would be "woodworking MOB".

anyhow, you write more like a "real person" and I respect your thoughtfulness. I'm sure I come across as nuts sometimes, but there's a 95% chance that when I get rude, a member of the miscreants has just elected to push MY buttons, perhaps out of boredom?

Do you remember a period of time when I posted NOTHING but woodworking related stuff? That was because I had heavily filtered out miscreants and no one was getting around to giving me smack. When they want to tangle, if I've got the time, I'll oblige them. Doug and his silly filters are SO inappropriate for a Mensa man; I mean really; is that all he has to do; keep updating his filters if I post under a different screen name? I can change screen names in less than 15 seconds. I wouldn't have EVER posted under any but my usual had he not been so in my face with his filters.

Sorry you had to take time out of YOUR day to get involved in this nonsense.

Cheers, Bill!

I placed BAD on ignore months ago, how sweet it is!

Maybe I'm completely missing the point here but as a big time lurker, part time contributor and often time questioner I don't see what all the fuss is about.

I have the best filter in the world - if I see something I don't like - I don't read it. I DO use filters for the trolls who seem to like body parts and sexual functions but everything else is not important. I have read and sometimes responded to BAD over the years and have always found his info to be helpful and sometimes humorous.

To those people who complain that he's wasting bandwidth - aren't you contributing to the bandwidth waste by complaining?

I am not defending BAD - he certainly is extremely capable of doing that himself but again I say - What's the big fxxking deal? If you don't like what he says, a) ignore and/or b) don't read it.

Just MHO,

Do you have any concept of how childish this all sounds?

Time for an adult hobby?

I imagine in your mind you've never been the instigator?

Collateral damage?

Pretty magnanimous when there aren't any consequences, don't you think? Shouldn't you suffer some penalty when you've done so?

So when and how were you appointed to clean up the place?

6th grade? 7th grade?

I'm sure you like to pretend you're a casual, disinterested participant, but I think if you step back and look at how many posts a day you make, maybe you'll realize it's more like an obsession.

This is the line that prompted my first question: do you have any concept of how childish this all sounds?

Someone "got in your face with his filters?" Oh, the humanity.

"his filters" is more than "his". it's what everyone including myself have used, although I went back to relying on more personal restraint and a couple of filters in Netscape.

OF COURSE I realize it all looks childish!! Do you think I'm stupid?? I was making a point about how ludicrous it is of Doug and company to think that they can stop me from posting here. Give me some credit for not being as dumb as you'd like to think I am.

Don't you think Watson's tirades directed at me for days on end were childish too?? Are you afraid to confront one of the "good ole boys"? Where was your righteous indignation then???

So "getting in your face with [their] filters" is what precipitated your ire?

No. Immature was the word I would have chosen. You apparently lack as much self discipline as the others who are involved in this. For my part, I'm done. This is my last post to you on the subject.

Ah, the you-can't-stop-me defense.

Ibid.

Didn't read them. I quit reading his stuff some time ago. The reason doesn't matter. The act is the key. Why did you read them?

As a matter of fact, following my own advice above, I won't be reading yours any more, either.

See how simple it can be.

Buh bye.

PS: the first sentence looks weird with "is" but thinking about what "his filters" refers to makes me wonder if "is" is correct. anyway, FYI I don't have anyone filtered and I haven't suffered a stroke. :)
