a size for wood prior to gilding

I am looking for an easy to make size to mix with red bole prior to gilding some wood frame. Normally a rabbit skin glue or parchment clippings would be used. But these need heating up and i only require a small amount so i need an easier method. say a cold size which will do the same thing

Liberon sell ready made gesso, and they do it in different bole colours too.

you can also buy tiny jars (try an artist's supplier)

Rabbit skin glue (again from Liberon) is easy to work with. It does need heating, but it's less trouble and much quicker than hide glue

Hide glue works (although it's not flexible, in comparison to rabbit skin) and there's a ready-made cold hide glue available from Titebond.
