10" sliding miter saws

Is a general belief as to which 10" sliding miter saw is the one to get? I've heard a lot of good stuff about the 10" Makita dual bevel saw (it seems to be a bit older and therefore time tested). The other I have heard to be good (Ive heard its beats the Makita flat out!) is the new hitachi C10FSB (or the C10FSH laser version of the same saw). Any feedback on the matter?

Thanks,

Michael

In the March 2004 issue of Wood magazine, they rated the Bosch 4410 as the top SCMS. They rated the Hitachi C10FSH as the top value saw.

I ran the Hitachi for about 5 years in an industrial situation. It is still going strong. IT is noisy but I guess they all are. While that saw is still going I have been using the 12 inch Dewalt for 3 years at home and trimmed most of the rooms in my house as well as the framing. It is awesome. The capacity is a little larger because of the bigger blade. max

I have used 4 different versions of the Hitachi (the one with the laser) and like the laser but nothing else, there is too much flex in the handle of the saw, the laser fell apart on one, the flip fence seems to move somewhat when normal pressure is put on it. The Dewalt on the other hand is a great saw, have used it for 5 years now in trim work and love it, if it had a laser I would never buy another saw (I added the laserkerf to mine)

I've been using the Hitachi 8½" sliding miter saw and for a homeowner/hobbyist I think its great. It'll cut up to 12" and how often do you do that with a chop saw? The cuts are clean, the brake actually works, and its so light I can carry it around , throw it in the trunk, or store it when I'm not using it. About the only thing I'd like is an accurate laser line and a better sawdust collection system. But then, all these saws throw sawdust.
